While you don't need to be a professional swimmer, it is necessary to have basic swimming skills for safety reasons. Being comfortable in the water, knowing how to float, tread water, and swim short distances will ensure a safer and more enjoyable scuba diving experience. Having basic swimming skills will also allow you to navigate underwater more confidently and effectively. If you are not a confident swimmer, we recommend taking swimming lessons before attempting to scuba dive. What is the structure of the PADI Open Water Course?The PADI Open Water Course at Chloe Blue Scuba is designed to give you the foundational skills and knowledge you need to become a certified scuba diver. The course consists of three main components: knowledge development, confined water dives, and open water dives. During the knowledge development portion, you will learn about the principles and procedures necessary for safe and enjoyable scuba diving. This may be completed through self-study using the PADI eLearning platform, or through instructor-led classroom sessions at our dive center. The confined water dives take place in a shallow, controlled environment such as a pool, where you will practice essential scuba skills under the guidance of our experienced instructors. Here, you will become familiar with your scuba equipment, learn key techniques for underwater navigation, buoyancy control, and emergency procedures. Finally, the open water dives will give you the opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge you've acquired in real dive situations. You will complete a series of four open water dives, usually conducted over two days and reaching a depth of 18 meters (60 feet). These dives will allow you to explore and experience the underwater world in a supervised and supportive environment. Upon successful completion of the PADI Open Water Course at Chloe Blue Scuba, you will be certified to dive independently with a buddy to a maximum depth of 18 meters. What do I gain my completing my PADI Advanced Open Water Course?You’ll gain more knowledge into scuba diving and be able to go to new depths (Junior 10-14 years 21 meters / 15 years and older up to 30 meters). The great thing about the PADI Advanced Scuba Diving course is that you can explore more dive sites, improve your buoyancy, and become more confident in the sport.

How long does the course take?The course takes two days to complete. You will need to complete five adventure dives which can be done over two days - these two days do not need to be consecutive.

How much time does the PADI eLearning take?The eLearning will take approx. 5 hours to complete or over a few evenings! The eLearning is not as in-depth as the PADI Open Water Course and there is no exam at the end. You'll just need to complete the knowledge reviews from the adventure dives that you'll be participating in.

What do I need to bring with me?You will need to bring a swimming costume, towel and water bottle. Depending on which adventure dives you choose, we’d recommend that you purchase a dive torch, compass and dive knife. You are able to rent these items or we can offer a 15% discount at the Scuba Pro shop in Jumeirah.

Will my child be in the sea?The PADI Bubblemaker and the PADI SEAL Team are conducted in the swimming pool only. The Junior PADI Open Water and continued education will be conducted in the swimming pool and the sea.

Is there a minimum age?Yes, children 8 years or older can participate in scuba diving. Any younger and there is a risk the child’s lungs won’t be fully developed and this may cause physical health problems when scuba diving.

Is my child ready to start scuba diving?Every child is different and they all grow up at different stages. If your child seems keen to learn, confident in the water and ready to discover a whole new world, they are probably ready! If they are not confident yet in the water, wait until they are older. We encourage parents to make their own judgement into whether the child is ready or not.

Can I stay whilst the lesson is taking place?Absolutely! However, please resist from interrupting the class as the child needs to listen carefully to the qualified PADI Instructor along with building trust.

What equipment do I need to go scuba diving?You will need a scuba diving mask, fins, a wetsuit, a buoyancy control device (BCD), a regulator, a tank, and weights. If you're doing a course with us, the equipment will be included in the cost. For our scuba diving trips, you're able to rent equipment from us for 65AED.
